What's on

Church Ministries

I'm not ashamed to own my Lord,
Or to defend His cause;
Maintain the honor of His Word,
The glory of His cross.

At the cross, at the cross, where I first saw the light,
And the burden of my heart rolled away,
It was there by faith I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day!

Jesus, my God! I know His Name,
His Name is all my trust;
Nor will He put my soul to shame,
Nor let my hope be lost

Firm as His throne His promise stands,
And He can well secure
What I've committed to His hands
Till the decisive hour.

Isaac Watts

I am not ashamed of the gospel

Great is the Lord, and mighty in power

Everlasting God

There is much concern and a great deal of talk in these days of the credit crunch. People are shaken when what seemed reliable and permanent turns out to be fragile and expendable. Although as Christians we may be affected in such times nevertheless we need not worry about the promises of God, they remain true. God is faithful and dependable and a constant help in troubled times, so let our faith remain steadfast in uncertain days.

Allan & Anne Kitt

Thank you for continuing to pray for us over the summer months. We stayed in Villefranche, apart from a short trip to Wales to visit Allan's mother and step-father. We enjoyed seeing family here, and having time to prepare teaching programmes and material for the church and to continue helping Christians in their walk with the Lord. Regular evangelism continued too, with the book table at the market and regular visits to the nearby assembly-run retirement home.

Please pray for this retirement home, called “La Clairière”, situated eight miles away in the Beaujolais hills. The home was opened in 1969, and does not meet present-day requirements. It was decided to build a new home on land adjoining the present building, and construction is now well under way. In order for fees to be kept as low as possible, the present building must be sold, and in the present economic climate this is proving difficult. Please pray for a miracle: a suitable buyer to come forward soon. The home has an excellent reputation, and was even placed fourth in a recent survey of retirement homes across the whole of south-east France. There are over 60 residents and about 50 full- and part-time staff. Very few of the residents and staff are evangelical Christians, and there is an open door for the gospel. Our local MP, who is also mayor of Villefranche, enjoys making regular visits to the home. Please pray for David, the manager, who is also one of the leaders in the assembly.

Pray for the area around the hall. Some of the new homes we've mentioned in previous letters are now occupied, and we'll be continuing to deliver tracts to these flats and houses, and meeting new residents personally when possible. Praise God for several African Christians living nearby who come regularly to services, and pray for conversions among local French people.
