What's on

Church Ministries

Oh, to see the dawn
Of the darkest day:
Chirst on the road to Calvary.
Tried by sinful men,
Torn and beaten, then
Nailed to a cross of wood.

Oh, to see the pain
Written on your face,
Bearing the awsesome weight of sin.
Every bitter thought,
Every evil deed
Crowning your bloodstained brow.

This, the power of the cross:
Christ became sin for us
Took the blame, bore the wrath-
We stand forgiven at the cross.

Having a break

In his gospel Mark records the incident where the Lord and apostles would appear to have been exhausted by the multitudes, not even having time to eat. The Lord said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.”

This occasion reminds us of the need and value of a break, even in the work of the Lord. It is good to have a holiday whatever time of the year, for most people it is the summer and hopefully we return knowing the benefit and blessing.

Sunday school

The Prizegiving service for the Sunday school children was enjoyed by all, with the families and friends of the children appreciating the programme, looking back over the session. It is encouraging observing the development and understanding the children have in learning the scriptures, as well as their enthusiasm to participate.

We also appreciated the return visit from Brian Lowrie. Thank you to all who assisted making the event a special occasion for everyone involved.

Pray for the Summer Sunday school when the children will learn about John Bunyan author of Pilgrim's Progress.

Summer Camp

The Camp Coffee Night on the 12th of June at Johnstone was well attended by campers, leaders and parents. The camp this year will be a return visit to Whittaugh Park in the borders from the 20th to 24th July. There will be around 100 campers and leaders at this year's camp that will enjoy the facilities at the centre and listen once again to Douglas Young. Please pray for suitable weather and that God will bless the camp.

News

Once again there will be joint services on a Sunday evening during the summer with the friends from Kilnside Evangelical Church and Albert Hall, Renfrew. The first service will be held at Bethany on the 5th July with full details on page four of the update.

Mission Focus

The focus last month featured some of the people at Bethany. There was Jim McGillivray speaking of his involvement in Praise Gathering, Frank McKinnon on the missionary influence in his family. In addition Marc Campbell outlined the plan for the GLO mission at Johnstone that he along with Fraser Crawford and Mark Wilson would be involved in. A report of the mission will be given later in the year. There was also a DVD giving an insight into the hymn writing of Keith and Kristyn Getty.
